T-02DATA MATRIX GENERATOR

Data Matrix
/ IUID generator.

Encode any string as an ECC 200 2D Data Matrix, or build a MIL-STD-130 UII (Construct 1 or 2) in the ISO/IEC 15434 envelope from CAGE or DUNS, part number, and serial. Download as SVG for engineering drawings or PNG for documents and RFQs.

INPUTS
Module scale (px)

Visual size only. Production module size is set on our end based on substrate and grading target.

Quiet zone (modules)

Minimum 1 per ECC 200; 4 recommended for DPM grading.

01HOW TO USE

Three workflows.

01

Engineering drawing reference

Generate the symbol you intend to mark and place the SVG on the drawing. CAD imports it as vectors, so the mark on the print is true to the mark on the part.
02

RFQ illustration

Build the MIL-STD-130 UII, download the PNG, drop it into the RFQ. We see exactly what you mean and can quote without back-and-forth on the data string.
03

Capacity check

The encoded-string preview tells you whether your intended IUID fits a small ECC 200 symbol or pushes you into a larger one. Pair with the mark size calculator for the substrate footprint.
02FREQUENTLY ASKED
Can I use this generator for production marks?

It is intended for engineering reference, drawing placeholders, and RFQ illustration. The encoded data is correct ECC 200 Data Matrix, but production IUID marks have substrate-specific module sizes, quiet zones, and verification grading that we set during the marking job. For production, send us the data string and we will produce the verified mark.

What is the difference between IUID Construct 1 and Construct 2?

Both are DoD Unique Item Identifier constructs defined in MIL-STD-130. Construct 1 combines an Enterprise Identifier with a serial number that is unique across the entire enterprise (data identifier 18S). Construct 2 combines the Enterprise Identifier, the Original Part Number (1P) or a lot/batch number (1T), and a serial number unique within that part or lot (S). Construct 2 is the more common path for manufactured parts entering the IUID Registry.

Is the output a compliant MIL-STD-130 mark?

The data content is. In UII mode the generator emits the full ISO/IEC 15434 Format 06 message — the [)> header, RS, 06, GS-separated ASC MH10.8.2 data identifiers, and the RS EOT trailer — encoded as ECC 200 Data Matrix, and checks the character set (A–Z, 0–9, dash, slash), enterprise identifier format, and the 50-character UII limit. Physical compliance still depends on module size, quiet zone, human-readable information, and verification grading per ISO/IEC 15415 or AIM DPM, which we handle at marking time.

Why is my exported file black-and-white?

Data Matrix is a binary symbology — light modules and dark modules. SVG exports use pure black on white so they import cleanly into AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, and other CAD packages, and so they invert correctly when used as a mark mask in laser software.

Which enterprise identifiers are supported?

CAGE codes (data identifier 17V, issuing agency code D) and DUNS numbers (12V, issuing agency code UN). The concatenated UII shown under the symbol is built from the issuing agency code, enterprise identifier, part or lot number where applicable, and serial, which is the form registered in the IUID Registry.

Can I download both SVG and PNG?

Yes — both formats are generated client-side. Use SVG for engineering drawings and CAD; use PNG for documents, RFQs, slides, and email.

READY TO MARK?

We’ll produce the verified mark from your IUID string.
