Engineering drawing reference

Generate the symbol you intend to mark and place the SVG on the drawing. CAD imports it as vectors, so the mark on the print is true to the mark on the part.

RFQ illustration

Compose the IUID payload, download the PNG, drop it into the RFQ. We see exactly what you mean and can quote without back-and-forth on the data string.

Capacity check

The encoded-string preview tells you whether your intended IUID fits a small ECC 200 symbol or pushes you into a larger one. Pair with the mark size calculator for the substrate footprint.

Can I use this generator for production marks?

It is intended for engineering reference, drawing placeholders, and RFQ illustration. The encoded data is correct ECC 200 Data Matrix, but production IUID marks have substrate-specific module sizes, quiet zones, and verification grading that we set during the marking job. For production, send us the data string and we will produce the verified mark.

What does IUID Construct 2 mean?

A DoD-defined Unique Item Identifier construct that combines a CAGE/Enterprise ID, an Original Part Number, and a Serial Number unique within that part number. It uses ANSI MH10.8.2 data identifiers — 17V for CAGE, 1P for part number, S for serial. Construct 2 is the most common path for items entering the IUID Registry.

Why is my exported file black-and-white?

Data Matrix is a binary symbology — light modules and dark modules. SVG exports use pure black on white so they import cleanly into AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, and other CAD packages, and so they invert correctly when used as a mark mask in laser software.

Why no "[)>06" envelope on the output?

A fully compliant DoD UID mark is wrapped in a [)>06 envelope with RS, GS, and EOT separators (ASCII 30, 29, 4). Including those non-printable characters in a generated illustration tends to confuse engineering drawings and downstream rendering. Our generator outputs the data identifiers and values; we apply the envelope and verification at marking time.

Can I download both SVG and PNG?

Yes — both formats are generated client-side. Use SVG for engineering drawings and CAD; use PNG for documents, RFQs, slides, and email.
