Utah Marking — Industrial Marking & Traceability
MATMATERIALS

Laser marking,
material by material.

The substrate decides the process. Stainless steel and titanium are annealed, anodized aluminum is ablated, bare aluminum is etched, and plastics foam or carbonize depending on the grade. Each page below covers the process we run on the JPT M7 MOPA fiber laser, what the mark looks like, Data Matrix readability, post-processing, and how to call the mark out on a drawing.

01FULL REFERENCE

Eleven materials in one table.

Carbon and alloy steel, tool steel, brass and copper, technical ceramics, coated and painted parts, and laser-markable label stock are covered in the material marking guide, alongside the four materials above. It lists the primary process, expected contrast, and Data Matrix readability for each substrate.

Marking types and equipment are under capabilities, and verification is described under quality: every serialized code is read back and graded before shipment. When the part itself cannot take a direct mark, a laser-marked asset tag or UID label carries the code instead.
